The ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME AIDS is a term describing the most advanced phase of the HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS infection. It is described BT the occurrence of any or more than 20 opportunistic infections or HIV-related cancers.
The HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS is a spectrum of conditions causes by the infection of the HIV.
Following infection, a person my not notice any symptoms but as it progresses, it interferes with the immune system increasing the Rik of common infections like TB as well as other opportunistic infections and tumors.
MODE OF TRANSMISSION

  • Unprotected sex
  • Contaminated blood transfusion
  • Hypodermic needles
  • Mother to child: during pregnancy and lactation.


N.B

Some body fluids such as Saliva and tears do not transmit HIV.

PREVENTION

  • Safe sex: use a condom, have just one sex partner.
  • Needle exchange programs
  • Treating infected individuals
  • Male circumcision
  • Anti-retroviral medications can be used to prevent disease in babies.

TREATMENT/MGT
There is currently no cure or effective HIV Vaccine. Treatment consists of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) which slows progression of the disease. As of 2010 more than 6.6 million people were taking them in low and middle income countries. Treatment also includes preventive and active treatment of opportunistic infections.

Early detection can save lives.
Discrimination kills faster than the symptoms.
11years is the average survival time without treatment.
It was first discovered in the US
HIV has claimed about 3.6million lives worldwide.
It cannot be spread by hugging, handshakes, mosquitoes or insect bites, as well as sharing showers and toilets.

don’t discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS, they’re just like you and me, they deserve your empathy, give them a chance, they’re part of society
